HORSE CARE
Horse care is a hands on activity. Each day, each child is assigned a horse while they attend the program. They are responsible for the grooming of "their horse" and the care of it's equipment. Learning to care for the horse, tacking up, and putting it away makes a real rider. Knowledge of grooming is essential in horsemanship. In addition to everyday grooming, children bathe the horses and learn how to use clippers. Children participate in everyday barn operations. Should the veterinarian or blacksmith be working, the children are included and encouraged to ask questions. All activities on the farm are valuable teaching tools enhancing the horsemanship program. We at Fieldstone Farm strive to create real horsemen.
HORSEBACKRIDING INSTRUCTION
Children are required to have footwear with a small heel. Pants, not shorts must be worn. Helmets are provided by Fieldstone Farm unless your child has his or her own. The beginner riders begin on the lunge line and master steering the horse, finding their balance walking and trotting, and then they are taken off the line to control the horse on their own. Fieldstone Farm School Horses have taught many riders the basics. The intermediate and advanced riders receive the finest instruction for perfecting their skills. They will probe deeper into the finer points of riding with instruction both on the flat and over small jumps. Riding progression and ability is enhanced by the everyday, week long consistency of riding under supervision.
